Best Practice: Indeed job listing integration

Get the most out of our integration with Indeed's massive online job portal. Get your job ad posted successfully, with minimum fuss by following these guidelines.h

As a part of our Recruitment feature in the system, you get access to the Indeed External Job Board integration. In addition to our recommended Best Practices When Using External Job Board Integrations, Indeed has put its own best practices in place. It’s important to abide by these best practices. Otherwise, failure to adhere to these guidelines may impact job visibility on the site. You can view their specific guidelines in their Job Posting Standards article, but we will cover the most common practices that can impact our customers below.

General Best Practices Recap

  • External job boards discourage all outside links published in a Job Listing, and will not sync a listing if there is a URL / weblink contained within the Job Listing description area. This includes URLs and email addresses.
  • Keep the job title simple, excluding locations, exclamation points, or excessive letters.
  • The 'Location' listed in the Job Posting must have a valid address, city, and zip/postcode.
  • The Job Listing can have details about a 'remote' option available or can be a 'remote' or 'work-from-home' job listing, but the best practice is to include an active address in place of the word 'Remote'. We are working on expanding the job listing fields to include a full address and even salary information as per Indeed’s new requirements, so that will be coming soon (stay tuned).
  • All Job Listings must be professional and not contain offensive content.

Indeed Best Practices

  • Employment Statuses - Although employment statuses are customizable in HR  Partner, Indeed sticks to formal employment status options.
  • Solely Post Jobs - i.e. do not post training and education opportunities or multi-level marketing opportunities. Indeed’s Job Posting Standards list more restrictions for this rule.
  • Accurate & Detailed Job Posting Details - Indeed will not push through any jobs they feel exhibit unclear, nonspecific, misleading, or contain missing job information.
  • Job Titles and Descriptions Must be Well-written - As stated above simpler is better when it comes to job titles, it’s also equally important that titles and descriptions are detailed, accurate, and well-formatted.
  • Disposition Syncing - Indeed tracks disposition data (think the job application stages) for candidates going through the hiring pipeline, and has a specific set of Disposition/Stage data that they want to capture. You will need to cross-match your existing (and new) HR Partner Stages to Indeed's Disposition Statuses. You can learn how to do so in our article Disposition Syncing for Indeed Apply
  • Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) - As we’ve recently announced, Indeed now necessitates the option of including EEO questions on a job application form. If you’re one of our US-based customers with a 50+ employee headcount, please reference our article Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Data

We’ve included the main practices that could impact your job listing’s visibility on Indeed’s website. However, we encourage any of our customers using our Indeed integration to visit the links in this article, as well as Indeed’s page, Job Posting Standards, for their full list of best practices.
